A Math Olympiad Competition for 4th, 5th and 6th Graders

220 students representing, 23 schools participated in the 3rd Annual Cheetah Cup, a Math Olympiad Compeition for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 and hosted by the Creek View Elementary Academic Bowl Team, students competed for awards in both team and individual categories. The students had to solve 20 clever, engaging, and challenging problems on a variety of mathematical topics. This produced an exciting atmosphere for students and teachers alike.
Although friendly, the competition was fierce, and students used many different strategies to tackle the problems. Tie-break questions were necessary to determine all individual prizes. All participants are to be commended for their enthusiastic and positive acceptance of the challenge to compete. Special congratulations go to the following teams and individuals for their outstanding performance:

The Cheetah Cup is a unique math tournament geared for students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. It encourages students at all ability levels to stretch their thinking, and test their math skills against students from other schools. The Cheetah Cup engenders the spirit of healthy academic competition in a well orchestrated test of skill. It is an engaging learning experience for all participants. Please register early as registration is limited to 30 teams.

I applaud Ms. Becker for starting the Cheetah Cup! There are Spelling Bees, but where can you go for a Math competition at the upper elementary level? This kind of event highlights the true enjoyment students get when they are able to exercise their academic abilities in a public forum. It's invaluable.
